We had an excellent hunting season in 2007. As it was last season, our sheep average was well above the long-term average of 37”. This season our rams averaged 38.2” and 10.3 years old. Twelve rams were 39” or better. We got a good number of rams scoring 160 B&C or better with the best score right at 168 B&C. Our hunters went home with some great caribou all throughout the season with 10 of them grossing 390 B&C or better and best scoring caribou at 438. Our mixed-bag hunters did well on moose. This year our biggest moose was 67 ½”.

The weather was very good for most of the season with very little rain through August. The rivers and creeks were as low as we’ve seen them. The weather challenged us for the last 10 days of the season, but all of the caribou hunters went home with excellent trophies.

We had a great group of hunters again in 2007. Backpack hunting attracts a special breed of hunter who come north to hunt for all of the right reasons – the physical and mental challenge of a backpack hunt, the great scenery, the camaraderie and the knowledge that there is a reasonable chance to harvest a great trophy anywhere within our outfitting concession. We like to promote the hunt for the whole experience, not just “the numbers”. However, a lot of hunters ask about the numbers so here are a few facts: the long-term average has been 37” and 10 years old on rams. In the past 10 seasons we have harvested well over 100 rams that measure 39” or better with over 60 of these rams measuring an honest 40” or better. Most years we get 5 to 7 Mountain caribou that gross 390 B&C or better. The long-term average on moose has been 57”-58” although we seem to get a few exceptional moose from time to time.

We get many repeat hunters every year; this year 30% of our hunters have been with us before. Many of these repeat hunters have been with us three or more times. Bill Ostrom just successfully completed his 14th hunt with us. Next year, Bill is planning on celebrating his 70th year with another sheep hunt with us. Way to go Bill! We also had a good number of family groups hunt with us this year – husband/wife, father/son, father/daughter – 2X1 hunting is a great way to hunt because you can experience the hunt together and share the memories forever.

Our entire crew always works hard to make sure that you have a safe, enjoyable and successful experience with us. Come and take on the challenge of a mountain backpack hunt with us!
