Our 2011 Hunt Report

The spectacular, game-rich country of the North Mackenzie Mountains in Canada's Northwest Territories provides the perfect place for hunters of all ages and walks of life to enjoy true wilderness backpack hunting the way it was meant to be. At Arctic Red River Outfitters, we have always believed that there is much more to a great hunting experience than simply the harvesting of a trophy. Our entire crew of experienced professionals is committed to making your hunt an "adventure of a lifetime", along with giving you a chance to harvest a great trophy, and the diversity of our area allows us to tailor your adventure to suit your personal goals. Our exclusive, 10,000 square mile hunting area is one of the most remote hunting destinations in North America, contains no roads or trails, and is completely undisturbed by development.

We had another excellent season in 2011, thanks to a great return crew, who worked hard all summer and fall to make each hunt safe, fun, and successful. The spring was late this year, and we had fairly cool weather to start the season, followed by a very wet August.  We found that the sheep and caribou were moving a lot more than they typically do, and were spending time in some unusual places, and so everyone worked hard to make sure we were in the right place at the right time.  We harvested 29 rams this year, and they averaged just under 11 years old and 38”, as well as some great velvet caribou through August, on both the single species caribou hunts, as well as optional game on the sheep hunts.  The largest caribou taken was by Carmie Hull while on his sheep hunt, and it gross scored an incredible 460” B and C.  We enjoyed some beautiful fall weather for the first two weeks of September, and then for the later part of September we hunted through a fair bit of snow and fog, even though the temperatures stayed relatively mild.  This foul weather made the last caribou hunt somewhat challenging, but successful in the end.  There were lots of great moose around this year again, too.  Overall, the hunting was very good, as the photo album shows. Congrats to all our clients and crew for all the great backpack hunting once again - we hope you all had as much fun as we did in the Arctic Red country!

We invite you to write or call anytime to find out more about what Arctic Red has to offer, and to discuss the details of any particular hunt. We look forward to hearing from you!
